Tornadoes and Flash Flood Threat Continue Across the Plains

Severe storms are bringing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds to the Plains, with flash flooding also a significant concern.
A tornado outbreak was confirmed in southern Illinois on Sunday, with EF-2+ tornadoes and wind gusts exceeding 70 mph reported.

Why It's Important?

The severe weather poses a high risk to communities across the Plains and Midwest. Tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail threaten property and safety, while flash flooding could inundate roads and low-lying areas. Southern Illinois has already experienced multiple tornado warnings, with debris detected on radar. Saturated soils and high water levels in some areas increase the likelihood of significant flooding impacts, including travel disruptions and potential evacuations.
